New Mayotte Map Talk!

Bonjour les ami.e.s!

Hoping all is well as we near the end of one of the toughest school years I've personally ever experienced.

I wanted to share with you this little snippet of a Map Talk I did recently with my tenth graders. We are talking about habitats and living situations in different parts of the Afro-Francophone world. This Map Talk of Mayotte allowed us to discuss the history of this overseas department, the demographic makeup of the islands, etc. We will go on to study the revitalization of the "banga" rite of passage among adolescent boys in Mayotte to build and live in their own small house, away from the family home.

Later in this unit, students will do comparative analyses between these and other rites of passage and living situations we have studied throughout.

I've also created a Map Talk Script to share with you all a bit differently this time. Here, it is in the form of a slide deck, complete with a Google Form Mini-Quiz that you can administer to your students afterward. Check it out and let me know what you think! All my TpT products are on sale for 20% off through Sunday, so get in while it's hot.

Thanks, as always, for all the great work y'all are doing to make the world a little better.
